A CELADON-GLAZED JAR, SUI TO TANG DYNASTYChina, 581-907. The massively potted globular vessel is raised from a circular, sprawling foot towards a short cylindrical neck. The shoulders with four double-looped handles. A crackled pale celadon glaze covers the upper half of the jar entirely, thus revealing the buff ware below.Provenance: Collection of George de Menasce. His father, Baron Felix de Menasce, was a banker with Austro-Hungarian links. During the Second World War, George gave open house piano concerts in his home in Moharrem Bey, attended especially by British servicemen, for which he was awarded an OBE. After inheriting his mother's fortune, he began to build a substantial art collection with a strong focus on Chinese porcelain.
