A RARE COMPLETE SET OF WOODBLOCK PRINT BOOKS 'KYOSAI GADAN', MEIJI PERIODJapan, 1868-1912. Consisting of four illustrated books, titled 'Kyosai gadan' (Kyosai's account of painting), and organized into 'inner' and 'outer chapters', each consisting of two parts. The books were published in 1887 by Iwamoto Shun, the text is written by Uryu Masayasu, and is accompanied by Kyōsai Kawanabe's (1831-1889) own illustrations.Provenance: Dutch private collection.Condition: Commensurate with age, woodworm holes, tears, and creasing. He dictated the text to his friend Uryu Masayasu (1821-1893), also known as the gesaku author Baitei Kinga and the publisher of this work, Iwamoto Shun.
