A PEWTER BOWLLATE 17TH OR EARLY 18TH CENTURYEngraved to the centre with the arms of the FISHER family of St Giles, Middlesex, whose memorials are to be found in the church of St Mary, Islington, the exterior rim with Latin text from Psalms 25:6 'lavabo inter innocentes manus meas et circumdabo altare tuum Domine'33.5cm diameterIn 1614 these arms were granted to Thomas FISHER (died 1636), 1st Baronet. The baronetage and the arms became extinct in 1707, when Richard FISHER (1629-1707) 4th Baronet died without issue and no alternative male heir existed. The addition of a Roman Catholic cap and mantle in the form of tassels, identifying the arms as being allocated to either a Domestic Prelate or an Abbot Provost it may mean that the salver is part of an altar set for the purpose of communion. The blazon of the arms: or, a demi lion rampant gules, a chief indented of the last.
