A LARGE CELADON GLAZED ‘LOTUS’ PORCELAIN SHALLOW DISH CHINA, QING DYNASTY It rests on a short unglazed ring foot and has a round body. It is shaped as a lotus with a foliate rim and either molded or carved radiant lotus petals. It is all covered with a nice celadon glaze. The base bears a Jian Ding red wax seal of exportation. H: 6,6 cm - D: 28,5 cm 大号青瓷莲纹浅盘 中国,清代 Provenance: - a private collection; - Juan Carlos Katzenstein (1925-2018), an Argentinian Diplomat, who was an Ambassador in Beijing, China, from December 6, 1975 to January 2, 1978, and later to the Holy See (Vatican) and to the Sovereign Order of Malta from 1989 to 1991 (by repute). Note: Because the Buddha is often depicted as seated on a lotus, the lotus is considered a sacred Buddhist symbol (one of Eight Auspicious Symbols) representing purity and detachment from worldly cares.
