A CINNABAR LACQUER ‘WORKERS’ VASE OF ROULEAU SHAPE, BANGCHUIPING CHINA, 20TH CENTURY, CULTURAL REVOLUTION PERIOD It rests on a tall ring foot and has an elongated egg-shaped body surmounted by a tubular neck with an everted rim. The thick cinnabar lacquer is deeply carved with reserved medallions depicting three workers or peasants of the Cultural Revolution at rest. One has left his two buckets and is seated on a rock and reading. The two others are seated along a river, one likely holding a smoking pipe. Appart the reserved medallions, the body, the foot and the neck are deeply carved with geometric patterns and flower scrolls.
