Attributed to HANEGAWA CHINCHO / 羽川珍重 (Active 1711-1736) Nehan-zu (涅槃図) / Parinirvana / The death of the Historical Buddha Print in colours on paper Depicting the death of the Buddha surrounded by his acolytes and a large variety of animals An unidentified partial faded signature / mark to the below right Framed Dimensions (the sole print): 34 x 24,3 cm Notes: 1. Hanegawa Chincho, pupil of Torii Kiyinobu I, was an artist from the period of 'tan-e' and 'beni-e' prints. He is most known as an illustrator of novels than as a designer of single-sheet prints. 2. Compare with a related print preserved at the Museum of Fine Arts of Boston under accession number 21.6876, that one said to be by Nishimura Shigenaga (Japanese, 1697–1756). Also compare with another related print preserved at the Honolulu Museum of Art under accession number 1943 (12029). 3.
