A BLUE-GROUND SILK KESI 'DRAGON' ROBE 19th centuryPROPERTY OF A CALIFORNIA PRIVATE COLLECTORA BLUE-GROUND SILK KESI 'DRAGON' ROBE19th century The medium-blue silk ground woven with nine five-clawed dragons in gold-wrapped thread amidst an assortment of bajixiang, bats, and the 'One Hundred Antiques', the blue ground patterned with a quadrilobed-diaper of gold-wrapped threads, each diaper each unit enclosing either a blossom or wanzi symbol, all above bands of crashing waves and lishui stripes, the sleeves of ribbed navy silk, the collar, trim, and hoof-shaped cuffs with further 'dragon and bat' brocade, lined with light blue satin. 53 1/4 x 84in (135.3 x 208.3cm)Provenance:Yong-Ting Dornes CollectionRobyn Buntin Oriental Art, Honolulu, 31 October 1994. -
