A Worcester teapot and cover, circa 1754-56A Worcester teapot and cover, circa 1754-56Of globular form with fine strap-fluting and embossed rococo cartouche panels, painted in blue with the 'Indian Fisherman' pattern, the front with a Chinese angler beneath a willow tree, the reverse with a figure in a sampan, flower spays around the border, 13.8cm high, workman's mark of a tiny cross (2)ProvenanceRonald McKnight Melvin CollectionBeechwood Collection, Simon Spero exhibition, 2016, no.44Robyn Robb CollectionThis is a fine example of a 'panelled' teapot, as listed in Worcester's London Showroom price list circa 1755. The detailed moulding is exceptional and clearly Worcester's decorators appreciated this, for by leaving the moulding in the white without any blue outlines they created a most attractive and light composition. A similar teapot was in the R David Butti Collection sold by Bonhams on 10 May 2006, lot 101.
