PROPERTY OF VARIOUS OWNERS A LACQUERED AND GILT-WOOD IMPERIAL TEMPLE PLAQUEQianlong period, dated by inscription to 1738 The rectangular plaque carved with central characters shengzhi (Imperial Decree), flanked by two long inscriptions recording this edict granted by the District Governor Zhao Guolin to the wife of the deceased scholar Cheng Wenren, the text praises her filial piety and chastity in the years following her husband's death, and dated Qianlong third year (1738), the frame painted in polychrome lacquer with confronted dragons contesting flaming jewels. 28 x 74 1/4in (71.2 x 188.6cm) Please note this Lot is to be sold at No Reserve.
