此玉马为上等碧玉圆琢而成，细腻温润，马儿膘肥体壮，四肢苍劲有力，四肢俯卧，长颈回首，马鬃对分，雕工写实细腻，将其神情刻画得生动逼真。卧马周身琢磨光润，玉质若冰，包浆莹亮，马型骄健中显温顺闲适，极富优雅之态。整器动中有静、静中有动，当为清代文人书房陈设把玩之物。“滚马图”或“洗马图”为明末清初绘画、陶瓷、竹刻、玉雕之共有主题，表达休息干戈，马放南山的社会心理，“舆马放休，天下安宁”乃为太平盛世之象。
