Oil on copper, signed, framed measurements: 44 x 37, copper measurements: 34 x 26 cm. (Salamanca, 1748 - Madrid, 1814). Spanish painter and engraver, son of the Baroque sculptor Alejandro Carnicero, he was also a miniaturist. He entered the Academy of San Fernando at the age of ten and accompanied his brother Isidro to Rome. He stayed in the Eternal City for six years and won various artistic competitions. Upon his return, he completed his training at the Madrid Academy and from 1775, as a collaborator of José del Castillo, prepared cartoons for tapestries for the Royal Factory, destined to decorate the rooms of the Princess of Asturias in the Palace of El Pardo. . As a draftsman he made the illustrations for the editions of Don Quixote published by the Royal Spanish Academy in 1780 and 1782. In 1790 he made preparatory drawings for engravings, as the important group of the Bullfighting. Already as a court painter, between 1796 and 1799, commissioned by Manuel Godoy, he produced the book of the Real Picadero or La Equitación, which he was unable to complete. He collaborated in the Collection of costumes, a series on the popular types of Spain, making, between 1778 and 1784, seven drawings with characters from the Balearic Islands. His dance scenes and walks opt for a greater classicism. Proof of this are the Portrait of Carlos IV in armor (1789, Municipal Museum, Madrid) and the Portrait of Manuel Godoy (1801-1806, Academia de San Fernando, Madrid). In the 1780s Carnicero worked on the series of oil paintings with views of roads and ports, originally entrusted to Mariano Ramón Sánchez by Carlos III.
