It is believed that they were friends and that they were buried together, but Habib died many years later. These saints are venerated as "avengers of unfulfilled contracts". According to legend, Gurio and Samonas were imprisoned during the persecution of Diocletian, around 305. They were then kept for three days in a horrible dungeon, without food or water. When they were taken out, Gurio was in agony. Samonas was again cruelly tortured, but he remained steadfast in the faith. Both were beheaded to death.
