The name diaspore comes from the Greek word diaspora which means "to scatter", because it is known to crackle when heated. Typically colorless, or white, one occasionally sees stones of green or brownish. The tabular, or "platy" prisms which are its natural habit never allow for sizes of faceted gems such as this one. The present example of this rare mineral has been faceted into an emerald radiant-cut which displays a pleasant yellowish green color.
