This Yamantaka figure is gilded, with nine heads, sixteen legs, and thirty-four arms in an outstretched posture. The nine heads, arranged in three layers, are representative of the nine mantras to suppress Yama, the God of Hell. The largest head has a gaping mouth and a buffalo head to symbolize Yama. It's accompanied by three smaller heads with fiery red hair on each side, symbolizing wrath. Right above the buffalo head is a angry head of a cannibal yakkha. At the top is the head of Manjushri, symbolizing generosity and peace. His two main arms gently hold a Wisdom Queen, while the remaining thirty-two arms are extended outward, with each hand holding a Dharma instrument, each with an individual meaning. The Wisdom Queen sits in Yamantaka's embrace, holding a vajra tomahawk in her right hand and a gabala bowl in her left. Her left leg wraps around Yamantaka's waist, and her right steps on a bird. Each of Yamantaka's eight left legs step on a beast, symbolizing eight sorts of achievements. The eight right legs each step upon a bird, signifying eight variations of freedom. The Yamantaka is adorned in exquisite accessories, including a five-skull crown and various jewelries, all finely carved. The figure stands upon an upside-down lotus seat, covered with orderly beads on the upper rim and ripe lotus petals on the lower rim. Yamantaka is the entity with the most complex visual appearance in Tibetan Buddhism. This bronze figure is heavy and firm, with a majestic display and intricate carving - a result of the strict quality expectations of the Qing imperial workshops.
