Devotional image in which the Virgin Mary is presented with the Child in her arms, both embracing each other and looking directly to the spectator, the Child turning his face for it, since he appears with his back turned. Both figures are adorned with rich royal crowns of gold. The figures are placed in the centre of the composition, half-length, against a neutral, dark background, against which they stand out corporeally, worked with great illusionism. Formally, the delicate work on the faces stands out, with fine flesh tones rendered in pearly, sensual tones, with loose brushstrokes, capable of instilling a spiritual as well as a carnal quality. This humanises the embrace, the tenderness and intimacy of the gesture, while still showing it in its mystical sphere.
