14th-10th century B.C. A massive bronze spearhead, ovate blade with rounded, gently curved shoulders and rounded midrib, flat rectangular-section tang tapering to a sharply bent end. Cf. Khorasani, M.M., Arms and Armour from Iran. The Bronze Age to the End of the Qajar Period, Tübingen, 2006, item 270. 660 grams, 48 cm (19 in.). Acquired 1980-2015. Ex Abelita family collection. The spear belongs to the type V of the Khorasani spear-heads classification. The heavy spearheads of type V were cast in one piece, and have a characteristic tang formed by a flat, rectangular-section bar tapering to a sharply bent finial, sometimes like here, button-ended.
