Monochrome Turquoise Blue-glazed VaseChina, Kangxi-style, Republic period, baluster-form, with a high foot and neck, both decorated with raised rings, the flaring mouth with inwardly rolled rim, the body incised with a dragon-and-cloud design, the glaze with allover craquelure, bisque base and foot ring, ht. 12 in. Provenance: From a family heirloom mostly formed in the 1900-20s by Dr. Frederick Whiting (1821-1946). Dr. Whiting was a philanthropic otologist/professor of Clinical Surgery in Otology at Cornell University and authored the book, Modern Mastoid Operation. He was also known as a collector of American painting, medallic art, and Chinese porcelain.
