Margaret Pilkington was the elder daughter of Lawrence Pilkington (1855-1941), the co-founder, with his brother Charles, of the Pilkington Lancastrian Pottery and Tile Company at Clifton Junction near Manchester, famous for its lustre wares. Margaret Pilkington herself was a director of the firm for many years.
