A CARVED AND MOLDED LONGQUAN CELADON TRIPOD CENSER, MING DYNASTY
China, 15th-16th century. The deep rounded sides with a gently incurved rim and supported on three finely molded beast-mask feet with round bulging eyes, broad noses, and prominent teeth, the exterior boldly incised with a cross-hatched design below a double line border, covered overall in a finely crackled sea-green glaze that reveals the burnt orange body on the underside and the interior.
Provenance: From a private collection in Sussex, England, and thence by descent.
Condition: Very good condition with some wear and firing flaws, including firing cracks with associated tiny losses, pitting, and dark spots, intentional crackling.
