Ca. 619-906 ADA large sancai glazed pottery example depicting the earth spirit or guardian figure, seated on an integral raised base. A winged mythical feline having a multi-horned, centrally flame crested head, fanged open mouth, and hooved feet. Sancai glazed in green, caramel, and white. encrusted surface on the interior of the base. Tip of both horns restored, repairs and some restoration to center flame plume, otherwise overall exc. condition. An impressive example. Restored. For a similar see The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Accession Number: 11.83.4. This piece has been precisely dated by means of a Thermo Luminescence analysis carried out by Ralf Kotalla, an independent German Laboratory. The samples collected date the piece to the period reflected in its style, whilst also showing no modern trace elements. The TL certificate with its full report will accompany this lot.
