Ca. 1st millennium BCA zoomorphic terracotta rhyton in the shape of a horned animal (bull?), that stands atop four slender legs with nicely outlined hooves. The animal features a cylindrical body with a filling spout to its rear, a looped handle protruding from the back, a head with pronounced eyes, ears, horns, and a pouring spout at his mouth. The pair of horns crowns its head. This piece has been precisely dated by means of a Thermo Luminescence analysis carried out by Ralf Kotalla, an independent German Laboratory. The samples collected date the piece to the period reflected in its style, whilst also showing no modern trace elements. The TL certificate with its full report will accompany this lot.Size: L:250mm / W:205mm ; 1.14KgProvenance: Property of a West London gentleman; previously in a collection formed on the UK/International art market in the 1980s.
