Dish. Japan, early 20th century.Metal with cloisonné enamels.Measurements: 30 cm (diameter). This dish, decorated with cloisonné enamels, is notable for its high degree of decorativism, with a surface tending towards horror vacui. Against a background of intricate flowers, three irregularly shaped pavilions rise up, the interiors of which are decorated with cranes, birds and floral motifs. As can be seen in one of the pavilions, the Japanese crane is a unique wading bird, over a metre tall, with a sharp beak, long neck, red-tinged head, extensive wings and beautiful black and white plumage that sets it apart from its feathered sisters. Its graceful movements, agility and strong reaction to danger have inspired martial artists, painters, writers and poets for hundreds of years. Cloisonné enamelling is a technique which consists of depositing the vitreous paste of the enamel in recessedpartments or inpartments formed by metal sheets which, in relief, make up the silhouette of the design.Dimensions: 30 cm (diameter).
