Mary Fitzpayne, British b.1928 - Asleep amongst the rubbish; ink on paper, with label on the reverse of the frame inscribed 'Tramps & meths drinkers / Asleep amongst the rubbish 32', 17.5 x 27.6 cm: together with 2 other works by the same artist of similar subjects, 1 framed ink on paper, 15.7 x 31.5 cm and 1 unframed ink and pastel drawing, signed and dated lower right 'AM Fitzpayne 69', 29 x 39.5 cm (ARR) (3) Provenance: the Estate of Ernst Eisenmayer Note: Fitpayne became close with a circle of emigre artists in London in the 1950s which included Ernst Eisenmayer and her husband Eric Doitch. From the early 1960s she made works such as this depicting people on the margins of society in London, examples of which are in the collection of the British Museum, London.
