In a letter response on 15th September 1955 Sutherland outlines his range of prices for works, tentatively suggesting that Sutherland could do a direct deal of £15 for a 'very small' work. Sutherland invites John R. Brown for tea to his home at Trottiscliffe, West Malling in Kent and provides details on how to make the best journey from London. Sutherland also kindly offered to arrange a taxi to be 'waiting for you at the station (a Mr Johnson)'. It is clear that the artist and patron had a direct relationship and this is likely to have positively affected and influenced Brown's art collection through the years.λ Indicates that this lot may be subject to Droit de Suite royalty charges.
