63 x 48 cm.
Colonial school of the 17th century. "Virgin of Bethlehem". Oil on canvas. Relined. With restorations. Measurements: 63 x 48 cm. Cut out on a neutral background is situated Mary, dressed with a red tunic under a blue mantle bordered in gold, with the Child in her lap. Both figures are adorned with rich gold royal crowns, elaborately worked and decorated with cabochons of precious stones. The figures are placed in the foreground, half-length, against a neutral, dark background, against which the corporeal figures stand out, worked with great illusionism. Formally, the delicate work on the faces stands out, with flesh tones rendered in cold tones, their features rendered with a precise, smooth brushstroke, of Flemish heritage, which contrasts with the looser brushstroke in other areas such as the crowns or Mary s jewels, more typical of the Hispanic Baroque.
