Italian school of the 18th or 19th century. After CARLO DOLCI (Florence, 1616 - 1686). "Angel Gabriel". Oil on canvas. It has patches and restorations on the back. Measurements: 74 x 58 cm; 97 x 81 cm (frame). This work can be related to the Carlo Dolci style, being a piece made by an artist born in the 18th century or in the 19th century. According to critics, Carlo Dolci was the most outstanding Baroque painter in Florence in the 17th century. In addition to paintings intended to adorn the altars of churches, Dolci popularised compositions with half-length images of the Virgin, Mary Magdalene, saints and other sacred figures, with a polished and detailed technique, which were well received by the late Baroque clientele. Among his earliest works signed as an independent artist were portraits, a genre in which the artist worked throughout his career and for which he was particularly renowned. He forged his style by copying the works of the great masters of the 15th and 16th century, including Fra Angelico, Ghirlandaio, Michelangelo and Correggio. He was also in contact with the Medici collection, which greatly influenced his work by Dutch painters of his day such as Willem van der Aelst. Throughout his career and after his death he had numerous pupils including Agnese Dolci, his daughter, who continued the family tradition and made numerous copies of his work.
