30 x 36 x 36 cm.
Composite Corinthian capital. Spain, second half of the 18th century. Carved and gilded wood. Some of the gilding is later. It has restorations. Measurements: 30 x 36 x 36 cm. The one we now present is a capital of composite order, one of the Roman contributions to the classical orders. As we can see, in proportions and compositional elements it is identical to the Corinthian order, although it has two variations: the base is richer in mouldings and resembles an inverted Doric shaft. The capital, on the other hand, is a mixture or composition (hence the name of the order) that combines the volutes of the capital of the Ionic order with the acanthus leaves of the capital of the Corinthian order.
