A pair of Japanese Imari vases and covers, Edo Period, late 17th century or early 18th century, of baluster form, decorated in underglaze blue and shades of overglaze red enamel with ho-o in a flowering landscape separated by large ribbon tied leaf sprays, all below bands of lappet-shaped floral reserves, the domed lids surmounted by a gilt karashishi finial and decorated in blue and gilt with traces of red details, approximately 48cm high (2) Provenance: Property from the Kingshott Collection品相报告: one cover finial with piece missing of karashishi's mouth approximately 2.8cm long x 1 cm deep and scale chip to tail approximately 1cm x 6mm and hair crack to rim of cover and extending up into dome area of cover with overall length of approximately 8cm the other cover with chip to tail approximately 8mm x 6mm the bodies of each vase appear in good condition other than some surface crzing to glaze and typical wear to gilding
