After Giuseppe Nogari, Italian 1699-1766- An old woman warming her hands; oil on canvas, 50.6 x 25.9 cm. Provenance: Private Collection, UK. Note: A 19th-century copy of Nogari’s larger original painting, of which two versions exist, at the Gemäldegalerie Alte Meister, Dresden [no.592] and at the Royal Collection Trust [RCIN 403975]. With her head and shoulders facing the viewer, the old woman holds up her hands to a small brazier set on a table in the left foreground. She wears a dark hood and a fur-trimmed cloak over a low cut blue dress and a white shift. The sitter's age is evident from the wrinkles in her face and neck, and also from her mouth; though it is closed it is obvious that she has few teeth left. She is possibly intended to personify 'Winter', or perhaps 'Touch'. The model of the old woman seems to occur in other pictures by Nogari, including variant compositions of the same theme. A copy of this work by John Phillip (1817-1867), entitled 'The Bohemian Woman', is in Aberdeen Art Gallery [ABDAG000002]. Nogari’s original composition is a pendant to his ‘A Man Holding Spectacles and Resting his Hands on a Book’ (RCIN 403973). 品相报告: Please refer to department for condition report
