Guido Bach, German 1828-1905- Collecting water at the Nile, Cairo; watercolour heightened with scratching out on paper, signed, dated and inscribed 'Guido Bach / 1876. / Cairo' (lower right), 24.8 x 35.5 cm. Provenance: With A.S. Fine Art. Note: The present watercolour, depicting a scene in Cairo, is one of many works which Bach produced on his trip to Egypt in 1876, an experience which clearly served as a formative influence on the artist. The sketchy execution imparts a sense of spontaneity and immediacy to the scene, whilst the contrast of the foreground dark palette with the very lightly painted backdrop brings the viewer’s attention firmly towards the figures, and the apparently glistening water which forms the centre of the work. The Orientalist subject-matter and watercolour medium suggest a debt to Orientalist painters such as John Frederick Lewis (1804-1876).品相报告: Please refer to department for condition report
