An Italian alabaster figure of Saint Peter, 17th century, modelled holding a book in his right arm and later metal key in his broken left hand, on a waisted rectangular plinth and later black marble base, 50cm high overallProvenance: Works of Art from the Schroder Collection.As noted in the description, the left hand is broken at the wrist and requires restoration. The key it is holding is a later replacement. There are natural fissures to the alabaster overall which have ingrained dirt. The figure overall has a dark brown stain which rubbed and worn. There are some small nicks to the edge of the drapery and the big toe of the right foot has an old loss. The reverse is simply carved and is flat with no modelling as the figure was probably originally positioned in a niche.
