A COPPER ALLOY FIGURE OF GANESHA NEPAL, 19TH CENTURYA COPPER ALLOY FIGURE OF GANESHANEPAL, 19TH CENTURYHimalayan Art Resources item no. 4718 28 cm (11 in.) high尼泊爾 十九世紀 象神銅像This delightful bronze depicts Ganesha holding a grape-like cluster in his left hand to represent his beloved sweet. His other hands hold the prescribed attributes of a cintimani, lotus, axe, and malla. Ganesha sits in a relaxed posture and his rat-vehicle climbs the lotus platform with the expectant expression to join in on the bounty. Compare with a Nepalese stone stele of the subject published in von Schroeder, Nepalese Stone Sculptures, Vol. 1, Weesen, 2019, p. 317, no. 101E, which has a similar crown with thin, tall leaves. The crown type is also shared by a copper alloy Dancing Ganesha, dated 1848 CE, sold at Bonhams, New York, 16 March 2021, lot 301.
