A SILVER AND COPPER INLAID BRASS FIGURE OF HEVAJRA TIBET, 15TH CENTURYA SILVER AND COPPER INLAID BRASS FIGURE OF HEVAJRATIBET, 15TH CENTURYHimalayan Art Resources item no. 4715 11 cm (4 1/4 in.) high西藏 十五世紀 錯銀錯紅銅喜金剛銅像Hevajra is the principal yidam (meditational deity) of the Anuttarayoga Tantras. This figure's diminutive scale and many fine details suggest it was originally placed at the center of a sculptural lotus mandala. The eyes bear copper and silver inlay. The nuanced fanged expression is somehow fierce yet amiable. There is a subtle movement to the toes, enlivening the piece. The long, beaded festoons that fall from his consort, Nairatmya's belt and trace her outstretched legs are characteristic of 15th-century examples. A closely related figure is in the Walters Art Museum, Baltimore (54.3101).Provenance:Private California Collection, acquired in Hong Kong in the 1980s
