Karl Erich Müller (born 19 September 1917 Halle; died 10 January 1998 Halle) "Selbst" graphic - lithography on handmade paper, 50.5 cm x 35.5 cm, handsigned and dated at the lower right 71, number 5/15 Karl Erich Müller belonged to the Halle School and was one of the most important artists of the GDR. From 1946 to 1948 he studied at the Burg Giebichenstein School of Art with Erwin Hahs. Afterwards he worked as a freelance artist in Halle. Müller had his first solo exhibition in 1948 at the Marktschlößchen Halle. In 1947 he was one of the founding members of the Halle artists` group "Die Fähre". From 1953 he formed the "Hallesche Malerbrigade" with Willi Sitte, Karl Völker and Otto-Heinz Werner (1914-2000, as a form of cooperative collaboration, which aimed to help a "modern socialist realism" achieve a breakthrough in preparation for the Third German Art Exhibition in Dresden. Müller was a member of the Association of Visual Artists of the GDR until 1990. He had a large number of exhibitions and exhibition participations in the GDR and abroad, including from 1949 to 1988, except for 1982/83, in all German art exhibitions or art exhibitions of the GDR in Dresden. Seine erste Einzelausstellung hatte Müller 1948 im Marktschlößchen Halle. 1947 gehörte er zu den Gründungsmitgliedern der halleschen Künstlergruppe "Die Fähre". Ab 1953 bildete er u. a. mit Willi Sitte, Karl Völker und Otto-Heinz Werner (1914-2000) als Form genossenschaftlicher Zusammenarbeit die Hallesche Malerbrigade, die in Vorbereitung der Dritten Deutschen Kunstausstellung in Dresden einem „modernen sozialistischen Realismus“ zum Durchbruch verhelfen wollte. Müller war bis 1990 Mitglied des Verbands Bildender Künstler der DDR. Er hatte in der DDR und im Ausland eine große Zahl von Ausstellungen und Ausstellungsbeteiligungen, u. a. von 1949 bis 1988, außer 1982/83, an allen Deutschen Kunstausstellungen bzw. Kunstausstellungen der DDR in Dresden.
