MEISSEN, Magnificent mantel clock "Sultana on elephant", 1807-1918.Extremely rarely formed figure from the second half of the 19th century, Meissen, blue sword mark on belly sides, Sultana on purple saddlecloth with golden tassels, braids and embroidery, she wears royal blue high cap with crescent moon trim, feather parts connected with golden pearl cord and brooch, ear jewellery and pearl necklace, royal blue coat with gemstone trim, coat dress with palm design and gemstone trim, dress with coloured Indian flower pattern, shoes with brooches, in her right hand the golden sceptre, in her left hand incense burner, elephant naturalistically painted, gilded, profiled base on paw feet, dial with Roman hour numerals, Paris movement with half-hour strike on bell, h: ca. 43 cm. (without clock) Slight signs of age, undamaged, the metal ornaments of the elephant and the fan of the sultana are not original and were probably integrated into the figure in the middle of the 19th century.Provenance: Important collection from Southern Germany.
