An art student who was regularly in his paintings, she appears demure, perhaps even in angst as she stares at the viewer- as a similar work indicates, see 'Gloria in Angst,' 1960 (Laing Art Gallery, Tyne & Wear Museum Service). Gloria is seen standing in the studio/billiard room of a large Victorian house Bratby had purchased in Hardy Road, Blackheath in 1959.
