Ca. 300-400 AD.A very fine terra sigillata plate sitting upon a roundish bottom. The plain walls are finished with a convex rim. The interior of the dish is decorated with relief animals around the tondo. 'Terra sigillata' is a type of fine ware Roman pottery identifiable by its red glossy surface slip, which was made in specific areas of the Roman Empire, such as North Africa, Gaul, and Central Italy.Size: L:36mm / W:180mm ; 225gProvenance: Property of a London Ancient Art Gallery; formerly in the famous Alison Barker collection, a retired London barrister; acquired between the early 1960s to 1990s.
