Description A SMALL PEACHBLOOM GLAZED PORCELAIN AMPHORA, c. 1920sChina, late Qing Dynasty (1644-1912) to Republic Period (1912-1949). Of ovoid form tapering towards the foot, surmounted by a trumpet neck with three ridges, covered to the exterior in a rich mottled plum tone interspersed with emerald-green splashes. The recessed base with an apocryphal six-character Kangxi mark.Condition: Very good condition, minor wear.Provenance: French private collection, acquired at Chiswick Auction London, on 2 June 2021, lot 478 in the after sale.Weight: 299 gDimensions: Height 18.4 cmThe vase is described as an amphora after the Greek shape, but it is known in Chinese as Guanyin ping as its shape compares well to the libation vase said to contain ambrosia held by many figures of Guanyin, as depicted in paintings and sculptures. It is also known in Chinese as liuye ping, 'willow-leaf vase', owing to its elegant form which resembles that of a willow leaf.
