Description A WOOD NOH MASK OF A LADY, KO-OMOTE, MEIJIJapan, Meiji period (1868-1912). The wood carved to depict the face of a young woman with almond-shaped eyes and slender lips, the eyes and lips lacquered in red, the sides of the face in black. The interior carved with the sign for 'mountain' and with a red inscription.Condition: Shows repairs, the top with losses, chips, remnants of lacquer, natural age cracks. Provenance: Ex-collection Claude Vérité, Paris. Calude Vérité (1928-2018) was the son of the painter Pierre Vérité (1900-1992) who began collecting African artwork in the 1920s, and later started to work as an art dealer.
