Description KUMAMOTO KICHI: A MODERNIST CERAMIC FIGURE OF A FISHSigned Kumamoto KichiJapan, Showa period (1926-1989)The large and heavy figure molded as the head of a fish looking upwards, with an open mouth from which two tentacles protrude upwards ending in two separately molded and therefore removable eyes. Decorated in bright polychrome enamels, silver and gold, each side painted with differently shaped panels, one side decorated with one eye, the other side with two eyes. The base with the artist signature 'Kumamoto Kichi'.Condition: Overall good condition with minor wear and minimal manufacturing flaws. Three tiny flakes to the enamels, a tiny chip to the end of one tentacle, two hairlines, one through the body and one to the mouth and with the tip of one eye reattached.Provenance: Private collection in the Netherlands.Dimensions: Height 75.5 cm, Width 54 cm
