Description A MANCHU-MONGOLIAN TRAVEL PERMIT, LATE QING DYNASTYNorth China, Inner Mongolia, late Qing Dynasty (1644-1912), 19th century. Watercolor and ink on cloth, framed behind glass. depicting the eight Buddhist emblems (Bajixiang) centered by an elephant carrying a monkey, rabbit, and bird. The sides with Manchurian and Mongolian inscriptions as well as the eagle of the Russian empire.Condition: Good condition, minor wear, little tears, minor soiling, the frame with a few small nicks.Provenance: Ex-collection Late Paul Rutten, Amsterdam.
