Description A GOLD-LACQUER FOUR-CASE INRO DEPICTING A TIGER AND A DRAGON, 19th CENTURYJapan, 19th centuryThe four-case inro finely decorated in predominantly gold takamaki-e and hiramaki-e to depict to one side a tiger with quizzical expression and muscular body, the eyes inlaid, and to the other with a celestial dragon amidst swirling clouds and above crashing waves, the interiors of nashiji with gold fundame edges. The base inscribed HEISEN SAI. With a lacquer ojime depicting a deer and a man in an outdoor setting and a fine Edo period stag antler netsuke of a shishi with ball, the mouth agape in a roar, with a loose ball inside, asymmetrical himotoshi though the underside.Condition: With minor wear, few minor flakes to the lacquer, shallow surface scratches and a short crack, otherwise good condition.
