Ca. 100-300 AD. An oval-shaped carnelian intaglio with an engraved depiction of the standing goddess Venus with her both hands raised, set in a spectacular gold ring of a possibly later period, with a round, grooved hoop filled at both sides with fine granules. The hoop expands to form bilateral support for a bezel cell framed with beadwork. Excellent condition; wearable. Venus was the god of love, beauty, desire, sex, fertility, prosperity, and victory.
