The fashion received a boost in 1762 with the publication of the letters of Lady Mary Wortley Montagu concerning her time in Turkey from 1717, while her husband was ambassador there. Meissen figures were the original model, (fig. 1) but those were copied at Bow and Derby (fig. 2) before being copied by the Chinese. Very few examples of any related figures are recorded.
