Gerald Cantor Center for Visual Arts at Stanford University, March 2000-February 2003Xu Da (1332-1385) joined the Red Turban Army to overthrow the Mongol rulers and rose to the rank of general. He assisted the first Emperor of the Ming, Zhu Yuanzhang, in defeating his rivals. Later he was awarded the title of Weiguo gong.
