Tang dynasty or later|The shrine of rectangular form with an arched tympanum, carved in relief with a central Buddha seated in dhyanasana and wearing long robes falling graciously over the legs, flanked by four bodhisattvas seated on lotus pedestals and a winged Garuda supported by two yakshas, the whole surrounded by a flaming halo and supported by a waisted pedestal inscribed with an eight-character inscription reading 'Da Qi tianbao jiu nian jingzao' and translating as 'Made in the ninth year of the Tianbao era (AD 560) of the Great Qi Dynasty.|54cm ((21 2/8in) high|Provenance: An English Private Collection, formed in the early 20th century, and thence by descent.
