18th/19th century signed 'You Zhu'|The cylindrical tusk section finely engraved in red and black to the exterior with a lone scholar carrying his wrapped qin through a mountainous pass, the reverse with a two-line poetic inscription, bearing signature and two red seals. 12cm (4 3/4in) high|Provenance: The collection of H.G. Beasley (1881-1939), acquired on 30 October 1916, and thence by descent.The present lot is inscribed with a couplet from 'A view of the Han river' by famous Tang poet Wang Wei (699–759)This river runs beyond Heaven and Earth, where the colour of mountains both is and is not.
