This unique material was cut and crafted with great skill to create a singularly remarkable surface. The few objects that do contain coconut timber or shells were mostly brush pots or weiqi counter bowls and covers; see M.Flacks, Custodians of the Scholar's Way: Chinese Scholars' Objects in Precious Woods, Chicago, 2015, p.306.
