It is hard not to be enthusiastic about this set, painted laboriously with individual unique views of English buildings and ruins in an idyllic countryside. The Machin factory made hundreds of patterns, most of them printed and then hand-colored. This has to be one of their most ambitious designs, with an emphasis on artistic flair. Here is the teapot and lid, the teapot stand, the sugar and lid, the creamer, six tea c, six coffee c and seven saucers. (I managed to add one saucer to replace one that has been repaired, but I’ll include the repaired saucer also.) However, the key feature of this antique porcelain service is that many of the pieces are in like-new condition, with no wear even to the gilding on the rims. The decoration is largely also in perfect condition, with no scratches. There are only two small dings to the painted scenes, and one shallow chip to a corner of the sugar lid. Three c have slight gilding wear. Other than that, it could havee from the factory yesterday. For collectors of Machin porcelain, this is a must! (Note that the gilding on the lids of the sugar and the teapot varies, but I assume this was original to the set.) The teapot is six and a quarter inches long overall. A stellar set from a major factory early 19th-century in superb condition.
