A LIMESTONE ‘LION’ MAT WEIGHT, HAN DYNASTYChina, 206 BC to 220 AD. Carved as a recumbent lion with its feet tucked underneath, the head resting on his paws, the face with bulging eyes and a ruyi-shaped snout, finely incised with a central ridge along the face and scrolling fur. The stone of an even blackish-brown color.Provenance: From a noted Czech private collection. Originally acquired in Japan.Condition: Good condition,mensurate with age. Small nicks, cracks and losses, light surface scratches, few little chips, remnants of pigment, signs of weathering and soil encrustations.
